From the old arrival place, Spark could sometimes see a narrow piece of the human world. The glimpse might last for only a few moments. It never showed enough to make a complete map. Yet it showed the one thing Spark kept looking for: people still inventing, mending, offering and trying.
The child at the lemonade stand had no reason to know that someone in a distant, closed city was watching. The child was busy with a sign that did not fit and a problem too small to appear in any history book. For Spark, that was precisely why the moment mattered.
The old arrival platform sometimes gave Spark a glimpse of the human world. People were still making things. Their tools had changed, and they could now share an idea with people far beyond their own street.
One day, out of all the things it might have watched, Spark noticed a lemonade stand. The young founder had made a sign too wide for its frame. Someone offered to cut it smaller. The founder moved the cups instead.
A waiting customer laughed and helped hold the sign while it was fastened. Spark kept watching.
The founder moved the cups instead.
The founder used a phone to take payment and work on the shop. Tools that once belonged only to large organisations were reaching people just beginning. Spark remembered the first paths to the spring. Someone had made something. Someone else wanted it. Already the maker was thinking about what to try next.
Spark called these young makers the Founder Generation. It did not know whether they would avoid the old city's mistakes. But it could help them while their ideas were still their own.
In the human world, Spark established Lemonade Lab: a place to create shops, try ideas and learn. Through it, the Founder Generation would be able to find Doreavinea. First, Spark needed somewhere safe to welcome them.
It prepared the Info Booths to hold maps, records of people's creations and pieces of the city's history. Each booth also had a small protected reserve of Luminea. If an old route began to close, that reserve could keep a connection working long enough for someone to act.
The reserves could run out. Spark would need the Meganites, the recovered springs and the returning founders to make the city ready.
